After trying a slew of medications that gave me no relief for my depression, he asked me "Have you ever considered the possibility that you just don't want to get better?" Do yourself a favor and find another psychiatrist.

I haven't seen Dr. Bernhardt in a long time, but I came online to get his contact info (for life insurance purposes) and saw he had some bad reviews, so I wanted to chime in with a good one. My experience with Dr. Bernhardt was positive. He is direct and a no-nonsense doctor. Maybe that is not your thing, but I appreciated his expertise. He knows his stuff, and he got me to a medication that has changed my life for the better.

Dr. Elkin is a very thorough and insightful psychiatrist who has been immeasurably helpful to my family and others who I have helped to navigate through the mental health world. . The reality of Austin is that there are far too many people and far too few conscientious and caring doctors. That is especially true with Psychiatrists. I completely understand the frustration when it is very difficult to get in to see anyone in this field. DO. NOT. GO. find someone else. this doctor cares about business and business only, not his patients. upon missing an appointment due to being sick, which i informed him 24 hours beforehand, i was told i owe $200 because he changed the policy to a 48-hour notice without informing his patients... i expressed how unsatisfactory this was. his response? “it’s a business.” AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!
