Don't waste your time. – I have been to Switzerland many times. I love fondue, and I know how to make it and what most of the Swiss cheeses are. The "traditional" fondue at Matterhorn was terrible. It tasted extremely alcoholic, and was the consistency of broth. I honestly didn't even eat it. And the sliced apple was mushy. Obviously there is no quality control here. The corkage is $20--too much in my opinion. Our waiter was very nice, but the hostess (owner?) was unwelcoming. I won't go back.
Try it...it's fun – We recently went for a friend's Birthday - the one tough part was we had 16 people and were seated at two separate tables. It worked out all the same - the Oh La La fondue was fantastic as were the beef and sausages. I would agree that the service was rather brisk but I think that's more a function of the staff actually being European where people are not "overly-polite" as most Americans (yes I am one) are used to. Are we talking about the same restaurant – I'm rather suprised at some of the ratings I've been reading here for the Matterhorn. The service on the many occasions I've been there has been nothing short of professional and courteous. It's brisk and efficient, but not unfriendly. I've had many of the cheese fondues, and the food is generally outstanding, though the desserts need a little work. GREAT COUNTRY...GREAT RESTAURANT!! – "Matterhorn Swiss Restaurant" is the BEST restaurant that I have been to in a long time. I travel for my job and I get to enjoy restaurants all over the U.S. While in San Francisco, I heard about this place and thought I'd try it. fine eats! – i go here every year for my birthday. it's a bit expensive for your average working girl, but it's worth it. you get tons of stuff to dip, and you will leave stuffed! the service is professional and good.
Don't miss the Swiss! – Great service, good cheese, comfortably elegant Swiss lodge ambience, we recommend the apples and the Riesling.
like in switzerland – Going to the Matterhorn is the next best thing to Swizterland. Authentic food, efficient service and lots of ambience. Compared to Saratogas La Fondue: the Matterhorn is the much better deal!!
10 – Wonderful food. Great service. We just went on saturday night and had a great time. The ambience was great and everybody was cheerful. This will be one of my regular restaurants.
