An Institution in Huntington Beach – Wonderful Japanese Ambiance with Sushi Bar, Dining Room, Tappan Tables and small dark and cozy bar. If you like "old school" restaurants with low lighting and great food and service, this place is for you. If you are looking for something slick and hip - go elsewhere, please. I don't get the hype – I'm not one to complain a great deal. In fact, I've only done it a few times. But I felt the need to give my 2 cents on this restaurant. After reading the reviews I felt it was a safe bet. Most people seem to enjoy this restaurant and I just don't see why. The atmosphere is great and the service was friendly and quick. The Sushi and Sashimi at the Sushi bar at Matsu is fit for a Shogun on Seven-Eleven wages. – I love Sashimi and Sushi if it is fresh and of high quality ,prepared by a Sushi Chief who is properly trained with many years of experience and an eye for perfection. Great Time, Great Food! – My 9 yr. old son and I both LOVE this restaurant. He loves watching the chefs cook right in front of him. His favorite is the onion volcano. I love their chicken and my son loves their shrimp. I also appreciate how well they treat my son. Their service is excellent! I highly recommend this restaurant. Don't forget to try the Green Tea Ice Cream!
We won't be back – Good service and atmophere. I thought I was in for a treat when I sat down in this restaurant. The first thing my husband and I ordered was a California roll. The crab in this roll was salty, dry and nasty. We later found out that they mix their (canned or freeze dried) crab with mayo, to moisten it up. We sent it back. What I compare all other sushi restaurants to – Best place. Hands down. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the food is superb. I am yet to find a better tuna tataki at another sushi restaurant. I've brought my parents, countless friends and 3 or 4 dates to this place. It's fantastic. The price is the same as any other reputable sushi restaurant, but the quality is just amazing.
