Moved in to a North Loop apartment managed by Master Key. On the second day when the gas was turned on and the heat started blowing air from the vents, I started getting sick. After inspecting the ductwork, there was mold everywhere. Rex and the team at Master Key are slum lords. They do the bare minimum and expect you to be grateful for it. Our place on 51st street was riddled with mold. When we told Rex about it he said “mold is in nature. Not sure what you want me to do about it” or something along those lines. We had respiratory issues for a year while we lived there. Rex and his team were unprofessional, unresponsive, and ultimately predatory. We requested a walkthrough and were ignored. Over a month after move-out, they sent us a vague email blaming us for "disarray" — including lawn overgrowth that naturally occurred after we left — and are now trying to charge us $700. They refused to take accountability for serious maintenance issues we reported (like black mold and A/C problems), and Rex was disrespectful and aggressive on the phone, speaking over us and denying responsibility becau... read more

I was a tenant in one of Masterkey's properties for 2.5 years and they are honestly the best property management company I have dealt with (and I've had my fair share of extremely difficult management companies over the last 10 years...) our property manager Rex was always easy to reach or would respond in a reasonable time to requests, critical repair requests like AC not working, or breaker issues, were fixed ASAP, and every step of the move in/move out process was smooth sailing. Highly recommend Masterkey!
