Specialties Amazing BBQ food made for the last 67 years History Established in 1946. For more than 60 years, Market Bar-B-Que has been serving real pit smoked ribs. Back in the days of vaudeville, Market Bar-B-Que was famous for being the late night spot with great barbeque food. In no time at all, it became the Sardis of Minneapolis, an after hours haven for hungry show folks, sports personalities, and just about anybody who was anybody. That was all back in the days when the Farmers' Market, our namesake, was located acros... read more

Overrated, poor interpretation of Southern BBQ – I had the spareribs. They were dry and tough, and not well-flavored. The whole point of indirect cooking methods such as smoking is to tenderize tough cuts of meat. The whole art of doing this is accomplishing the tenderization without drying out the meat. Market failed in both regards on the pork ribs, which is unacceptable. The chicken was not bad, but the spare ribs were a huge disappointment. The sides were good, I really enjoyed the slaw. Service was nice and I really dug... read more
Best Ribs and Best BBQ sauce in Minnesota! – Through my experience the Market Bar-B-Que has always been the best place in Minneapolis to get great BBQ. I've gone there as long as I can remember and I've always had a great experience. I'm a big fan of the ribs and homemade bbq sauce and I like that they a pit smoked like its done in the south. I've also had their chicken which I was very impressed with how moist and tender it is. I feel like the market has a wonderful charm about it that I don't find at big chain restaurants ... read more
Best downtown ribs - and one of the best downtown restaurants – If you're staying in downtown Minneapolis, forget room service - this is the place to go! Right on Nicollet Avenue (we call it Nicollet Mall.) Great food!!!
Over rated spare ribs – I've heard great things about Market BBQ today and a few friends and I decided to grab take out from 3 bbq places within the twin cities to compare. Market BBQ by far had the worst ribs. We got a full slab of spare ribs and they were not tender and seemed like they were cooked quickly at a higher temperature. Market told us the smoked chicken wings were very popular so we tried an order of those as well. They were okay, nothing special. The best thing was the cole slaw and that does not bode well for ... read more
Good food, Fun Bartenders, and Kareoke! – I never knew this place even existed, but Im glad I found it! The food is great and Sunday night Kareoke is a blast! The crowd is ecclectic, the singing is awful, but its a great time! Occassionally there is a good singer or two! The bartenders are friendly, the place is small, but fun. The food is your typical barbeque joint, deep fried, artery clogging goodness. Yum!
Premium, pit-smoked ribs and authentic Americana on Nicollet Avenue. – In Short Dark-wood booths, red-checked tablecloths and slabs of ribs served on paper-lined, plastic trays all indicate a true-blue, old-time barbecue joint. Dozens of celebrity photos from 60-plus years in the business line the walls. Tabletop jukeboxes feature retro favorites like Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog." This is manly food, from the heaping portions of pulled pork and chewy ribs and piles of crispy fries to the crunchy coleslaw and syrupy, barbecue ... read more
Barbeque to die for! – Market has, hands down, the best barbeque in town. If you want the wet, sloppy, fall apart ribs, go to your church basement cafeteria. If you want real, meaty, smokey spareribs-- this is the place. I have tried the chicken and it's also delicious, and the sauces are killer. They have great cole slaw too, and a good selections of beers on tap. The classic interior is spectacular. Their prices are a bit high, but you get what you pay for. It might not be the best place for a first date, 'cause to really ... read more
BBQ not impressive – Decor was great. Juke boxes at each table only eat your quarters once in a while (I was 8 for 10 in getting mine to work). Service is good. Fries were great. Unfortunately, the main draw, BBQ, did not satisfy. I ordered the roast beef. It was flooded with their BBQ sauce which was only ok. I would have liked to gave tried their other sauces, that come in bottles on the table, but the meat was already doused with the other stuff. It seemed like the roast beef was cooked separatly, and tasted pretty dried ... read more
All right – I wasn't blown away, but I'll go back. I really enjoyed the bbq chicken salad sandwhich, but I put a lot of extra sauce on it. My sister liked her bbq pork. I love bbq sauce so this wasn't quite my style. I am not a big fan of dry rub bbq like this. I went to Kansas City, MO soon after eating here. They are known for their ribs and dry rub is how they do it. Market BBQ stands up to where we ate there. I liked the atmosphere, old fashion family dinning.
