Right next to the great Asia Capital Market, Mala House is the place that shows how it's done. No, I can't tell if it's authentic, but I looove mapo tofu, and for that Mala House delivers. Amazing fragrance in a huge portion I didn't even eat half of, and yes you need the rice to manage the heat. The server screwed things up a little, but was so charming doing it that nobody could be mad. The menu has a crazy amount of variety, so this place is to come back to. The interior is much nicer than most Chinese places I have seen.
The best! The eggplant in garlic sauce is out of this world and is one of our favorite things to eat in Boise.

Authentic and well priced. I've been to China and had real local cuisine, and this is right on par. Oil is minimal and fresh, ingredients are good quality, and everything sits very cleanly. The Hot Pot 'Combo A' was great, can potentially feed 3, and had good variety of more "exotic" foods for Idaho (tripe, duck blood, etc) with typical beef, chicken and pork options as well. Absolutely spectacular! Very good food, fast preparation, and 1st class service. The food is perfectly prepared, and traditional.
