About this business

Originally opened in 1981, MacArthur Park has been serving the local community for decades, but the building it is housed in has been serving Californians for almost a century. With its historic charm, romantic setting and mouth-watering Californian cuisine, this restaurant makes for a perfect date night or special occasion. The most famous item on the menu is the Oakwood-smoked baby back ribs and was voted "Best BBQ in the Bay Area" for ten consecutive years by San Francisco Magazine. Great location next to the main entrance to Stanford University. Lively and hip bar scene. Beautiful ambience and décor in a converted barn. Excellent salads, steaks and ribs.

20 years of dining here When we first moved to the Bay Area we were looking for a more upscale European style restaurant for those special occasions. Before kids we dined there a lot. Recently we've gone back to coming here and we love the place just as much.

excellent food, great atmosphere My friend and I have been going there for at least 15 years to celebrate our birthdays and it's always excellent. We even had to do take out one time which was just a great.

such a disappointment – My impressions of this evening could have made a great short story...I remember MacArthur Park as "the place" for dinner - the building literally pulsated when you walked in. It used to be standing room only at the bar and the waiters were sharp and quick witted. Tonight we were one of 3 tables seated by the fireplace because the heater was broken. It was if we had entered an old abandon restaurant in a small forgotten town, and the servers rattled around the floor attemping to wait on us. Despite the... read more

The Best Steak In Town This is hands down one of my favorite restaurants to go to to celebrate a special occasions. I went here for my birthday last year and not only was the food as wonderful as ever but they even let us stay after the restaurant closed to finish our celebration. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for an elegant place to enjoy wonderful food, great service, and family/friends.

Great food, priced high We have gone to this restaurant a couple times a year for over 20 years. Their ribs are excellent but the price is not. At this point most visits are when someone else is paying. A formal dining experience done with informal touches - has always appealed to my engineering friends.

Used to be a great place – MacArthur Park is a beautiful place in a good location with a great history, but I was there on Tuesday 3/21 and it's clear the service and kitchen leave a lot to be desired. The service was slow, no one raved about their meal, and the bathrooms looked like they should have been at the train station, not a nice restaurant. I might not have noticed, but I remember when MacArthur Park used to be a great dining destination.

Don't Eat Here – If you are looking for dose of bad attitude from the wait staff and mediocre food, then this is the place for you. Our waiter was one of the rudest that I've ever encountered in any restaurant. He talked down to us while we were ordering drinks, then made minimal efforts to see how we were doing once our food arrived. The ambience was nice, but the menu was limited in options. There is no self parking, so you are forced to valet. Granted, $3.50 isn't much - but it would have been nice to have the option to p... read more

Wonderful Evening – Delicious food and a great atmosphere. We tried the baby-back ribs at our waiter's suggestion and were very impressed. The restaurant was busy but the service was still good. I've enjoyed their take-out in the past, but i really loved having dinner at the actual restaurant this time.
