Horrible Service – I went here looking to find a 1950s formal dress. I started browsing the racks of clothes when a sales woman yelled "don't touch the dresses!" and that I was to touch them by the hangers only. All the dresses were covered in plastic, which any vintage enthusiast knows is horrible for clothing! When I told the sales woman what I was looking for, she immediately starting explaining how "1970's dresses are sooo in right now! All the girls are wearing them for prom!" She continued to show me these hideous dres... read more
Tragic – I just read an article in which the owner of this shop boosted about what a lovely personal experience she provides her clients and how she "takes care" of all alterations...I laughed out loud! The first time I went there I took my sister, who was in high school, to look for a prom dress. She was 16 and about a size 8. The comment from the sales person was that he wasn't sure what they had anything for a "bigger girl". I tried to be polite and told him, that I was sure i could find something because they have such g... read more
ridiculous... – I have been on the hunt for the perfect vintage ring to replace one that was stolen from me. After visiting the Ravenswood Antique Mart, and having an extremely pleasant chat with the woman there, she recommended I try finding a ring at Lulu's. I really appreciated her steering me in the right direction, and felt optimistic at the prospects of finding something there--but when i walked into Lulu's my optimism quickly dissolved. The sales woman, in the completely empty shop, looked me up and down, and then pro... read more
...rude? – I was in this store about a week ago and after explaining my experience to a few of my friends, decided to write a review. I don't know about other people out there, but when you're going to a store, in my opinion you don't want the people to be snooty. Especially to the point where they act as though everything in their store should have a higher price tag on it than your life. That said, while shopping here the women were quick and knew their merchandise, getting something that wasn't perfect, but the best they ... read more
A wonderful experience at a truly beautiful store – Admittedly, the owner does come across as a bit intimidating, but that said, I can't blame her. She has gorgeous, old clothes that can be fragile and I've been to enough stores to see how customers often manhandle garments. They're her livelihood and she has every right to be careful.<p> If you're only looking for "vintage" Halston or Valentino (you can hardly call items from the 80's or 90's vintage), Lulu's is not for you; it's not a place for the label-obsessed (unfortun... read more
TURN OFF – Lulu's has some of the most attractive vintage clothing, accessories and jewelry. However, the shop owner is not customer friendly, unless she deems you worthy of attention. There are times when I and whoever accompanied me were totally ignored. However, I must say that the young women who help her are friendly and helpful but the owner definitely makes you feel unwelcome. Also, the pricing is way up there.
worst. service. ever. – As a student studying fashion with respect for nice vintage clothing, I had high hopes for this store. The cothing selection here is sub-par at best (forget other reviews, there was no Halston or Valentino in sight), the owner of the shop definately makes this store one of the worst I've ever been to. After sizing me up from the moment I walk in, she hastily explained we could touch the clothing by the hangers only. After finding a dress I was interested in, she snapped "you are too short for this dre... read more
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. HORRIBLE – Hailing from California with a plethora of high end vintage stores in Los Angeles and San Francisco, I found Lulu's on an internet website and decided to try it out. The owner began by telling us not to touch the dresses and that her heels were a collection from Neiman Marcus, even though they were obviously worn and in bad condition. I did not come across ANY designer names while browsing the racks, many of the dresses with stains on them even though she told us repeatedly "I buy all of my clo... read more
Extraordinary High End Vintage Clothing and Jewelry – The owner of Lulu's at the Belle Kay has wonderful taste and a great eye for unusual vintage jewelry, special occasion dresses and coats from all eras, through the 1980's. I have a high regard and appreciation for these pieces that have lasted throughout the years. The owner has everything cleaned before she sells them and they are always beautifully displayed by color and type. I can not resist buying something each time I go in there. The prices are very reasonable for ... read more
