A person came out to give me a price to close up a 10" round hole. The job would take about an hour with about $20 worth of material and they gave me a price of $1,350. When I said "for an hours work" the guy just shrugged his shoulders. This place gave me a price (about 3yrs ago) to replace the whole roof. They gave me a price of $11,500 but I had it replaced by another company for $5,300.

We have to account for labor, material, commission, overhead and profit, fuel, job supervision, General Liability Insurance, and Worker's Compensation insurance, to name a few.
