For more than 20 years, Le Papillon has offered an elegant setting in which to enjoy world-class French cuisine. Try the veal and duck dishes and sample from the extensive wine list. The setting is gorgeous and the dishes are painstakingly hand-crafted. Every dish that comes out of this here kitchen, is a work of art, in the truest sense. The restaurant itself is no less impressive, with spacious, elegant interiors bathed in demure mood lighting that pleases even the toughest critics. Elegant, stuffy but delicious – The food is excellent. The servers are efficient and professional. The ambience is elegant but too stuffy for us Californians, who want to enjoy the exquisite French cuisine without dressing up. The price is quite steep but we should expect to spend more at an elegant French restaurant.
A little overpriced and overhyped – I didn't think the cost of our dinner for two ($250) was worth it. The portions and quality of the food just didn't match the price and left me feeling a little ripped off. The service was straight forward but where we were seated (by the entrance) didn't do much for my impression of the restaurant. I wouldn't ever go back and I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends. Save your money and go to La Fondue which is a hundred times better!
Overpriced – The food was good, but excessively expensive for the quality of the dishes. Wait staff was helpfull and friendly, but somehow didn't quite gel properly. Ambiance was excellent, if a touch stuffy. Dinner was about $200 for 2 including wine and desert, but for the money I'd definately go elsewhere. (If you're taking a client out to dinner though, and you're on an expense account I'd recommend it)
Very Nice – For my birthday I had the tasting menu. The food is very good, the service even better. I would recommend this place for an elegant, classic dining experience.
Haute prices, but not cuisine – We went on Scott Cooper's reputation and ended the night by calling to see whether he had ever been there. Dishes were surprisingly bland and unimaginative -- e.g. beet and goat cheese salad where an overwhipped, insipid white mound lay in the middle, mustard crusted rabbit with only a hint of dijon on a portion of the leg. Service tried but didn't understand that calling us "my friends" and removing plates from someone still eating aren't good techniques. At the prices, a horrible value. 28 b... read more
