This unassuming Vietnamese restaurant is pleasant enough that Richmond District locals come back for more. The atmosphere is as bright and welcoming as the food is tasty. The menu consists of traditional southern Vietnamese dishes. Favorites include the imperial rolls stuffed with pork, shrimp and vegetables, the clay pot special which is stir-fried chicken, Chinese sausage, mushrooms and ginger over rice and flaming beef & prawns. Also find a wide selection of vegetarian dishes from hot and sour soup to eggplant in garlic s... read more

Slanted Door quality without the hassle, wait, and pretension – There are a number of affordable Vietnamese restaurants in the increasingly interesting Richmond District, most of which are on Clement St. However, the best of these is La Vie, which is on Geary @ 22nd. The quality of the food rivals that of The Slanted Door, though La Vie can't match SD in location or in menu diversity. Still, the food is always fantastic. The flavors pop more than its nearby competators, and the service is warm and efficient. They have the be... read more
Great French Vietnamese – We have been to this restaurant a few times. Everytime we go, we get great service, good food. The roasted crab is delicious. The flaming beef is also a winner. Try the garlic eggplant is a crowd pleaser. The family that runs the restaurant is very kind and welcoming. Highly recommended!
The Crab! – The La Vie Roast Crab with Garlic Noodle.......need me to say more.
Standout Vietnamese fare for reasonable prices along a busy Richmond District strip. – In Short Simple, clean decor with Asian instruments hanging on the walls sets a classy, low-key tone. The kitchen turns out a roster of predictable but solid favorites, including minced shrimp on sugarcane, pan-fried noodle dishes, clay pot cuisine and fondue beef that diners cook themselves in an aromatic vinegar broth of lemongrass and ginger. Vegetarian options go well beyond a mixed veggies plate with options like sautéed eggplant simm... read more
Love this place! – I was so happy to come upon this restaurant recently. Hands down the best Vietnamese I've come across in the City so far. Slanted Door's ridiculously overbooked status set me out on a search - and I'm now extremely happy to have found a better alternative! The service is amazing, there's no wait and the decor is simple, clean with amazingly fresh and delicious food. My only complaint is the lack of more variety in the dessert menu (as I'm not a big fan of fried bananas). However, I'm sure those are good to... read more
One of the best! – This plain little restaurant puts out some the best Vietnamese food we have ever had. We truly enjoyed the whitefish in black beans, the nest was wonderful and the service was so friendly and helpful. This plae is a must go to. Enjoy it is well worth the parking hell.
woooooooooooooowwwwww – I love the food- it's always fresh and light. The waiters are so friendly and also helpful to guide me to real Vietnamese Authenic cuisine. Comfortable, relax atmosphere surrounds the resturant that makes me feel like home. The wide range between vegetarian and meat-lover are endless. My glass was never empty because the waiter promptly fill it up. Do I have to say more, the La Vie Crab, was roasted with booming flavor that every single crab meat, just melts in my mouth.
Vietnamese Delight! – Depending on where you live in SF, it may be a trek to get out to La Vie, but well worth it. We loved every dish we ordered, especially the Crab. This place can be addicting - throughout the day you'll find yourself thinking about the food! Ask for Daisy and Sylvia, you'll be in good hands. They're friendly and warm to their customers and make sure you're dining experience is the best.
told as it is – La Vie has great food and i love the the i would tell everyone the try the ph'o (nobble and beef ball) or the crab but one thing that i love how they put the decoration of Vietnames insterment a picters carved in a type of wood.
