This unassuming Vietnamese restaurant is pleasant enough that Richmond District locals come back for more. The atmosphere is as bright and welcoming as the food is tasty. The menu consists of traditional southern Vietnamese dishes. Favorites include the imperial rolls stuffed with pork, shrimp and vegetables, the clay pot special which is stir-fried chicken, Chinese sausage, mushrooms and ginger over rice and flaming beef & prawns. Also find a wide selection of vegetarian dishes from hot and sour soup to eggplant in garlic s... read more

Great Crab The food is is just superb! You will have to order the dungeness crab, the way they cook it is amazing. The sticky rice with kiwi for desert was fantastic.
Fantastic Vietnamese Restaurant; a diamond in the rough! – We know Asian menus & this is better than great! There was only one area not totally impressive & that was the Pho, altho it was better than most Vietnamese restaurants offer. The lotus salad is the best ever let me assure you & will bring us back every time we're in the Bay area. The croquettes as an appetizer are a wonderful start & with the selections on this vast menu you'll find a fit for even the "pickiest" diner. The platings are in themselves decadent & the m... read more
Exquisite meals, Affordable prices, Friendly staff – I've lived in San Francisco's Richmond district for several years, and La Vie is by far one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Home to an array of Vietnamese/French fusion cuisines and a Hot & Sour soup that is simply to die for, La Vie produces high-class plates at prices that are affordable to the average restaurant-goer. Beyond this, the staff is always friendly and keep customers well attended to. A few of my personal favorites: --Hot and Sour soup (available w... read more
Rude Rude Service – We walked in for lunch during the weekend. I wanted to try La Vie because I've heard good things about the food. The place was empty. However, when we walked in, the disgruntled waitstaff saw us, but did not want to stop reading his newspaper to show us a table or address us. We waited for a minute or two and then left. If the waitstaff is that disgruntled in the front of the restaurant, I wonder what is going on in the back. I rarely will comment about rude service, normally commenting on the food, but w... read more
Best |Crab on Geary Blvd. – Wow!! What a treat the Garlic Crab and noodles were as well as the Coconut Prawns ........................ MMMMMM .Parking was not too bad (about 15 minutes). We were seated in about 10 minutes. Restaraunt 1/2 full when we arrived. Nice mellow ambience with romantic lighting. Service was GREAT even with the busy crowd. Noticed regulars and new people the night we were there. Waiter was very helpful with selection. This was a differnt kind of cuisine. Nice and differnt. Fried Ice Cream very tasty a... read more
Great and inexpensive The food is here is just great. We make a point to eat there any time we are in the City. The best part is that it is not expensive, just tastes like it.
BEWARE OF THE OVER PRICED CRAB !!!! – I read about this place on citysearch and how good the garlic crab was. After driving out to the avenues and spending about 10 minutes looking for parking we arrived at La Vie early. We were seated promptly. It is a small, simple restaurant. The first thing that we noticed was how poor the lighting was. My dad did not have his reading glasses and we both struggled to read the menu because the lighting was so poor. Of course, I ordered the garlic butter crab, eggplant , catfish in the cla... read more
Richmond favorite – Roasted garlic crab is terrific, as is the lemongrass chicken appetizer which is cooked at the table. The service is very good--polite, eager to help w/ the menu. We've been here several times and have not been disappointed--the typical fare (noodles, claypot fish) is very good, and the crab as I said was excellent. They only have the local crab for two more weeks (till mid-April) before they have to bring it in from the northwest.
Exquisite Vietnamese Cuisine !!! – After hearing high praises about "La Vie", we gave it a try today. The first impression right after entering the place is the detailed decoration and atmosphere, which gives warm, relaxing feeling. This is an excellent place for a private or romantic dinner date. The Vietnamese dishes served here are refined, meticulously prepared unlike most ordinary Viet restaurants in the city. I highly recommend "La Vie" s Roasted Garlic Crab. Watching the friendly waiter take out the live crab from the... read more
