Hands down the very best outpatient mental health day program in the bay area. Truly amazing clinicians, evidence based curriculum (CBT, DBT, ACT), specialized process groups for LGBTQ and BIPOC populations, etc. What makes the difference at La Selva is the quality of the therapists and the extremely supportive milieu. Highly recommended, and they take Kaiser insurance as well as many others. They also have a residential option (you live at their house), as well as a supportive housing option (kind of like a halfway house). ... read more
Stayed here a few months ago and it was such an isolating experience. The vibe of the house is very low energy and depressing. Tons of unstructured time to think and ruminate and just genuinely nothing to do. The groups are lecture like and have minimal to no interaction. The program itself is the problem not the staff. The cohort that I was with kept to themselves and no one talked to each other or was interested in conversation. La Selva was a life-changing experience that I believe saved my life. I arrived at La Selva after spending over a month in the hospital, and I was somewhat resistant to treatment; agreeing to residential care was my only option to leave a psychiatric hold. After arriving at La Selva, I was pleasantly surprised by the freedom I had and how my perspective changed. During the time I was here, I had a point person and doctor who provided me with quality care and would have given 4 stars (because the place had room for improvement). The point person is no longer there. A friend of mine who attended no longer recognizes any of the staff since they attended. Since then, attending the evening alumni program, I've had negative experiences that I wrote staff members about, but do not see improvement on.
