Attempted to cancel my membership before the billing cycle hit in March 2021. The gyms closed down due to COVID-19. I was notified that the billing would resume for membership and immediately contacted my local gym to cancel my membership. I called the LA Fitness located at Coldwater Canyon Ave, Sherman Oaks, CA, on March 19, 2021 to cancel. Dishonest business practices. They lied about the features available at their facility and sold me a membership while having no wifi for over a week and concealing that information from me. When I found out I canceled my membership within rescission and have a right to my full refund and they have been giving me the run around for two weeks trying not to give me back my money that they took in exchange for nothing. Cancellation policy of LA Fitness is intentionally difficult so company can reap extra profits from its members. To begin with, a new member pays an Initiation Fee plus "last month dues" - which means the company collects extra monies from its members that it will hold for years. In my case, I was a member for 12 years and relocated to a state with no LA Fitness gym. BE CAREFUL!!! I signed up with LA Fitness for a 2-year program and I REMEMBER clearly at the time of signing that the agent told me I can cancel anytime and get my refund back for the remainder of the contract. I'm moving to a different state now and requested a cancellation and guess what ... no refund for cancelling because I paid up front. I have been a member of LA Fitness for about 9 years now. I go to the club regularly with my two sons. On 05/06/2021, I entered the gym and the clerk at the desk asked my kids to sign in. I told them I was scanning in and asked the clerk if this would be an issue every time we came in because I have an upgraded account and both have been on my visitors list for years. FRAUD, SCAM and poor customer service. I started going to this gym in 2016 and decided I wanted to cancel around the beginning of 2018. Which I did, I canceled. When I started going I was 16, so I wasn't really set up and I had my moms credit card on the account. My mom is an older immigrant so she has some difficulty on technology, the English language, and checking her bank statement. I wanted to start taking better care of my health (as per the recommendation by my Doctor), So I went to LA Fitness on Camelback. I set down to speak with the location manager and he then brought over a personal trainer. At the end of the tour, they asked how I felt and I said overwhelmed, The personal trainer joking said it may be because there are two of us and one of you. Training contract: Impossible to get out of. I moved, but was not 25 miles away from the nearest LA fitness. I am without a car, and it would take over an our to get to it by subway. They still did not terminate the contract. So, I am forced to pay half the remaining balance.

I attempted to cancel my membership before the billing cycle. The phrases that were used by their employees "sorry you gotta do that online, sorry you gotta come in person to do that, you can come in between 9am-5pm." I showed up at 3:58pm. "I am sorry the manager left at 3pm, you gotta come in between 6am-3pm." A month later, I have had at least 15 different employees from different branch/location contacted me trying to collect.
