This charming restaurant is a little bit of Japan in Newport Beach. Glass walls and high ceilings give it a very open, airy feeling. The clientele comes for this as well as for the food. There is a sushi bar where you can sit, or you can get comfortable in the main dining room while you are served beautiful dishes like fresh fish, Japanese rice and vegetables, and delicious soups. Sip Japanese beer and sake or order a less exotic bottle of wine from the extensive list with bottles from $8-$75.

We used to come here all the time. New owners, they tip you off. Be aware.
The food is very good, but not too many vegetarian options.
Enjoyed their sushi. Was told expressly only to eat at the sushi bar.
Lunch special combinations
Management must have changed; food is different from before. More "Americanized" and not as traditional as before. Service is still great, but... Unfortunate changes imo. Maybe better in the future.
Don't ever order tempura rolls. Sashimi set is decent but too pricy
Sit at the sushi bar where Jun is serving, he's the most skilled sushi chef at Kitayama! Sushi prepared for tables is made by the most junior sushi chef.
