I typically love Kitanda and have been a loyal customer for years. The service in-store is usually excellent, and the food has always been very good. Unfortunately, on my last visit I ordered the Romeo & Juliet and, after biting into it, encountered what tasted unmistakably like mold. There was nothing visibly wrong from the outside, so I’m not sure whether it came from the mozzarella or another ingredient, but it genuinely tasted like a mouthful of mold. I used to really enjoy coming to Kitanda, but this visit was very disappointing. I spent almost $40 on two Tudo Bowls, and the quality was nowhere near what it used to be. The açaí was very watery, there was no condensed milk or peanut butter, and although there was fruit, there was much less than they used to include. For the price, I expected much better.
