Twenty years ago I was a patient of Dr. Shinohara. He implanted 60 plus radiation seeds in my prostate. He was so thorough, knowledgeable and a perfectionist. I am 81 and my PSA is undetectable! He is the best doctor as far as I am concerned!

I have already recommended a friend for treatment at UCSF with Dr. Shinohara. He is an exceptional practitioner. He always makes sure that I know about all available treatments.
Dr. Shinohara is clearly an excellent doc, and I'm VERY pleased to have him handling my cancer issues! I would recommend including recovery times and restrictions for various post-treatment options (e.g., radiation, HIFU, prostatectomy)--though, had I asked those questions, he would've immediately answered them carefully. My thanks and appreciation to him!

Dr. Shinohara is very thorough in his evaluation, provides clear and understandable explanations, listens well and answers questions directly, and has a friendly and calm demeanor. He embodies the excellence that UCSF strives to achieve.
He used the term HIFU without explaining it. He explained side effect, complications in a somewhat limited way.
During a recent video consultation with my urologist, Dr. Shinohara, we discussed the gradual increase in my PSA levels, which have now exceeded 5 ng/ml. We reviewed my history of active surveillance for an early-stage prostate tumor (T1c) and noted that it has remained stable under close medical supervision.
