I was referred to Dr. Shaw for an infection on my leg from an ankle fusion done in another state. Multiple providers both in Florida and North Carolina could not get rid of the infection over the course of 3 years. During my appointment, Dr. Shaw checked my leg and told me it was due to infection in the fusion hardware. Dr. Shaw gave me a plan of action, discussed the pros and cons of the surgery and strongly suggested that I have the surgery in the next 10 days. Dr Shaw took very good care of my broken ankle. My ankle was broken in several places and he literally put it back together. I am walking normally because of his care.
Dr Shaw is an artist. He and his team put my crushed foot back together and my post-op visits indicate that I am healing nicely. I have called his office twice for some clarification on what I can and cannot do while healing. Both times he returned my call personally. This is uncommon care. Dr Shaw is a good listener, extremely intelligent and compassionate. One of the best!
I cannot say enough about the kindness and compassion that Dr. Shaw has shown me as his patient. He performed my ankle ORIF surgery in January of 2025 and has helped me navigate this difficult journey since my injury. He continues to exhibit empathy and patience since my surgery. He never makes me feel rushed during my follow-up appointments and has answered all of my questions along the way. WNC is fortunate to have such a skilled surgeon and human being in our midst. Dr. Shaw evaluated and treated my wife for serious painful foot symptoms. His appointment process was efficient, helpful and accommodating, with a very prompt visit date offered. The office is impressively expansive, yet the staff was welcoming, helpful and professional. Dr.Shaw was attentive, “hands-on”, and provided excellent and understandable medical and anatomical information, which included personal review of X-Ray findings. Recommended him very highly!
