As someone in the Joplin Business Community and a member of the chamber, I’m so proud of our local chamber and the leadership! They are all inclusive and want to bring the community together, who can say that is wrong?
Joplin has had a pride festival since the mid 90's. Last year, under the direction of Toby Teeter, was the FIRST time the chamber has ever boothed at, or supported in ANY WAY a Joplin LGBTQ event. Had this been our old chamber it wouldn't have happened and again our community wouldn't have been aknowledged or supported. This is how to be inclusive and welcome diversity, let's not slip backwards. Ron Burch Co-Chair/JOMO Pride Inc.
I support Toby Teeter as president of the Joplin Chamber of Commerce and believe his letter to support basic human rights, human dignity, and to promote equality. If he is being asked to resign as Chamber president, I demand a list of names of people asking for his resignation. If they/you believe strongly enough that he is unfit for office, then you should be willing to publicize who is asking for that resignation.
I am proud to live in a city where the chamber of commerce promotes diversity and inclusion. Thank you for standing up for people in our community! The Joplin area chamber of commerce is the best!
