STAY AWAY – Have to agree with many other posters. The customer service is atrocious at this restaurant. After waiting over an hour and a half for a reservation we were seated in a cramped table, our waiter, also the owner was extremely rude and obnoxious throughout the entire process. I have never been treated so badly in all of my entire New York City dining experiences. I am always shocked when I see this restaurant listed as having some of the best customer service in guides year after year. Obviously if you aren't in wi... read more

Underwhelming – This place has a lot of hype, but it ain't worth the $. Great ambience and service, but the sushi is not a lot better than most other Manhattan joints and a lot more expensive.

Very Good – Been there several times before and after the renovation. Kinda miss the intimacy of the original space, but the additional seating was needed. The sushi is always excellant. It is prepared with care and always includes something interesting. Service is always attentive. Yes, it is pricey (and the sake is not cheap either). Yes, this is not an "all you can eat" slab sushi place. Yes, it is still a small place and when it gets busy you may have to wait a moment to get your water refilled. Nevertheless, the staff w... read more

DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE – I do not understand why this restaurant is considered one of the best. They don't make any cocktails - only 2 martinis which they brought over from Makimono which were made with bottled juice! Also, there are very few things to eat. We know good sushi from bad, and while the fish is extremely fresh and probably top top quality - the experience was not worth the money. The restaurant is also a little clautrophobic.

great sushi – and i have been to the purported "best" in nyc, and I don't understand what the other reviewers are saying! the service was very good, although i was anticipating the worst based on the reviews i had read. i came here twice so far just to see whether the second time around is as amazing as the first-- and it was!! I love this place, and would come here any day of the week... the dinner, however, was not cheap, and came to about $180 per head. be prepared to pay-- you must get the $85 omakase tasting menu! i lov... read more

IT ACTUALLY GOT BETTER, HARD TO IMAGINE... – JUST WHEN YOU IMAGINE THAT JEWEL BAKO CANNOT POSSIBLY IMPROVE UPON PERFECTION - THEY RENOVATE THE SPACE AND MAKE IT MORE BEAUTIFUL. The food, as always, is absurdly fantastic (not enough superlatives) and our favorite host/owner as gracious as ever. 30/30/30!

Jewel Bako – First off, my table was waiting for me at my appointed reservation time. The setting/ambiance is great for a date, thus that's what alot of the tables are composed of. As for the food, I thought it was good, not extraordinary. I've had better sushi elsewhere, and more inventive cooked food as well. The portions are small, but you can be relatively filled up by the end of your meal. The upside of the smallish portions is that a good sake can do a better job working over one's date, and you don't leave the table w... read more

Go there! – If you love sushi, you'll love this place. Sushi so fresh that it crunches in your mouth. Immaculate service, charming and cozy atmosphere, you can't go wrong here. But make sure you have enough room on your credit card as the bill will leave a big dent in your wallet.

The BEST best best best – It is rare that a "true new york sushi enthusiast" can be truly wowed by sushi. AND be wowed again and again, as we cannot get enough of jewel bako's amazing food. The toro, the uni, the yellotail, the sake, the adorable and interesting sushi chef-masa, and of course Jack! Go to Jewel Bako and you will agree that it is the best in nyc. Don't even bother with the others.
