I decided to pursue medicine as a teenager. Prior to this decision, I wanted to be a teacher and believed that medicine was for more serious and scientific people. While working as a medical transcriptionist in high school, I quickly realized how rewarding medicine can be. I enjoyed learning about the detective work of assessing a patient and finding a diagnosis, as well as the humanitarian aspect of working with people when they are most in need.
