Dr. Engel was everything I would expect from a specialist. His bedside manners were fantastic, acting like a regular joe. He was honest and forthright with his diagnosis and treatment options. The surgery went extremely well (for PD). Due to his very large patient load, his punctuality isn't the greatest, but considering my appointments were in the afternoon, I would expect such. Take a step back and find another Urologist. After a botched prostate biopsy left me hospitalized for four days, multiple messages left by hospital staff, not so much as a phone call from Engel or anyone on staff. Avoid this MD.
Dr. Engel has been the worst doctor that I have ever had while living in the DC area for 10+ years. If you are looking for a specialist in urology, I strongly recommend that you go elsewhere. First, I waited over 90 minutes for a 5-minute consultation. When I had the surgery, I also waited another 90 minutes before the doctor even came into the room. Second, he is extremely arrogant in a way I have never experienced for a doctor. Lastly, he provided minimal information at the surgery and only asked if I had any questions.
Dr. Engel has been my physician for more than twenty years. I have always known him to be informed, informative, attentive, direct, understanding, aware, and patient. His staff is protective; they know their jobs and they do them well.
I was treated for kidney stones some years ago by Dr. Engel. He told me that I could not have a familial risk to fentanyl which was the only anesthetic he would use at his physician owned facility. (My uncle died from it, and my mother’s blood pressure went to zero and she nearly died,) I told him we could not proceed with it, and from there on what had been a difficult, uncaring, and arrogant physician became hostile. Always 30+ minutes late to appointments, without explanation or apology. Has even cancelled appointments the day of with excuse that he is out of the country. Won't be coming back here.
Worst doctor ever. Uncaring, arrogant, and performed unnecessary surgery without doing any tests beforehand . Run do t walk away from this doctor.
He is consistently 1.5 hours late for appointments. His staff is nice enough but he is ALWAYS late.
Absolutely no bedside manner. I saw him for frequent urination interrupting my sleep and he asked if it bothered me enough to go on medication. When I said I wasn’t sure I wanted to be on meds, he snapped that there was nothing he could do for me. It was a total waste of time and money.
