DO NOT HIRE. In a divorce where I wanted to keep the house, the opposing lawyer hired J and R appraisers. The appraiser showed up and revealed that she lived in the area and I was told they appraised for that lawyer all the time. She did not even come to the door and have the decency to knock and say hi but just started walking around my property like she owned the place. I could write a book on how I feel about J &R Appraisals. But all the one-star reviews here all have said it quite well right down to the issues you will be possibly dealing with. **Read the one-star reviews and take them seriously**. Bad comps, to management, to expertise (?) in the very job they are hired to do, is all in question here. It could mean the difference between getting the house you dreamed of, or not fixing up the one you dreamed of making. Don't learn the hard way like many here. Interfirst mortgage contracted J&R Appraisals to do the appraisal for my remodeled home and their appraisal was extremely low and their grading completely biased against the real and obvious value of my property. 3 weeks later another loan company did an appraisal for my same home and came out 30% higher !! We understand that loan appraisals are defensive to protect the loan company but there also has to be some vague sense of fairness for the home owner for whom it it important to have a decent appraisal in order to achieve... read more
