Excavation may require more than simply digging holes. Sites have to be leveled and graded to prepare them for the next stage of construction, or dirt may have to be brought in, deposited, and moved around – all functions of an excavating company.

Backhoes feature a boom with a digging scoop at one end and a loader shovel attachment on the other. Backhoes are preferred for smaller site excavation work because of this versatility, enabling them to perform a variety of jobs as needed.

Chain trenchers look like giant chain saws, but are designed for quickly removing dirt to create furrows, trenches, or ditches. For broader applications, a wheel trencher is used. Depending on location and size of the project, either a tracked or walk behind configuration is available.
