Hey, I'm from Newcastle PA. and people don't realize how good pizza is in western Penn. It's always New York this and that, but I gotta tell ya. I'll take the food in the Pittsburgh area over anywhere else in the world. I've lived in Colorado now since '89 and the thing I miss most about home is the food, mostly the pizza. A guy I know says, " You have to try this place in Conifer, Steeler's stuff everywhere and the pizza is out of this world". So I go in, the owner, his name is Tony. Can you believe that, a pizza place in C... read more
We have been customers of JJ Madwels for many years. Over the years we've seen lots of changes in management, staff and ownership. I have to say this time the food has improved tremendously (probably the best it's ever been) but, the service still leaves alot to be desired. We dined there the other night. When the waitress (Chelsea) came to the table we immediately ordered our drinks and dinner choices at the same time. We sat for 20 minutes before our salads were delivered. We then asked for bread. Not 5 minutes later here ... read more
Ok, I have to admit, Since Tony took over this restaurant last summer, we have become pretty good friends. So maybe I am a little biased, but I just have to say, I ate at Macaroni Grill down the hill last night and JJ Madwell's service and food blows them away. If you have visited this restaurant in the past and had not had the best experience, give it a try now, It's a whole different experience.
My boss has been here many times and praised the pasta. Since we came from Thornton it took a little while but was well worth the drive. I love veal (especially when its cooked correctly) A little slow on the service and there were only six other people in the restaurant. No big deal. Looking forward totrying the pizza, the left side of the menu and coming here in the summer to sit outside and eat and have beverages.
I too have been a patron of JJ Madwell's for years, and have always loved it. Food has always been good, but service has been slow from time to time. It is a very busy restaurant and there is a reason. It's all made from scratch and to order. In the last few months service has gotten faster and faster and the wait people are so much more friendly than before. Try the Chicken Marsala, so much better than the stuff down the hill. Congrats to Tony and Jan the new owners, they have made a good restaurant great. We are lucky to h... read more
We are longtime patrons of Madwells. Lived here 25 yrs & supported the local businesses - we are one as well. Over the yrs we have excused the slow service , always left a fair tip for the server - not always their fault. Lastnight we waited a few minutes for a table -no problem. We got the same excuse about being busy, the same at most every visit. We ord drinks, which took quite some time, & waitied for rolls/sauce - the waited over 45 min for meal! Two couples who were seated after us were served their food before us! The... read more
I am fortunate enough to live close to JJ's. Even though it one of the higher priced places around here, it is WELL worth it. We ordered a small pizza & chicken fetichinni not knowing the portions were going to be so huge. We even had enough to share with another friend & we had enough for luch the next day.! It was awesome & the garlic bread is to die for. I would highly recommend JJ's to anyone looking for good "authentic" Italian food, great atmosphere & friendly staff.
If I could eat here every weekend I would. I had the crab manicotti. OMG! Loved it. The bread: fantastic, the service: great. Don't ever close.
