Cooked or uncooked it's all very good I am not a huge fan of sushi but my husband loves it. He has been to Japan on business several times and he loves Japanese food. This is where he likes to go when he is in the mood for sushi. There are many other options if you don't like sushi though. I myself usually get the tempura vegetables and udon noodles which is very good.
seasonal sushi special Izumi is in the Totem Lake area, inside a boring strip mall. However, the decor is authentic and ambience is very cozy. Everytime I go there, I will ask the server for its daily special sushi menu. They carry quite a lot of specialties not found elsewhere, especially in winter when they have various whitefish and shellfish sushi.
Fresh and the various traditional Sushi Izumi have a wide variety of set menu for lunch & dinner. The sashimi are always fresh and the sushi here is so delicious. All my friends recommend me the food there are very authentic. I go several times and I feel the same.
Large selection of nicely cooked Japanese dishes Izumi offers lots of good means--sukiyaki, katsudon, a nice sushi bar, nabe, on and on. These are all Japanese dishes, served with a true Japanese flavor (I lived in Tokyo for 2 years). The taste is delightful, the staff consists of obaachans (older women) and is very friendly (although occasionally slow). The prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is a bit off--the lighting is a bit dim, and the tables are a bit close together--but these are small concerns when enjoying your d... read more
Accessibly Japanese My son-in-law was raised in Japan, and he loves this place. The outside, a tired strip mall, doesn't look promising, but inside it is a small, pleasant bit of transplanted Japan. Service is leisurely but efficient, and prices seem quite reasonable. If you like sushi, you can sit at the small counter area where you can watch the sushi chef and take suggestions from him for sashimi and sushi. Other offerings include tempura and teriyaki, and dinners combining various elements are also available. It's a casu... read more
Sure, it's in a strip mall. But it's THE BEST! – Hard to believe Seattle's best traditional sushi restaurant is in a strip mall in Totem Lake! But it's true! Izumi is a gem. Absolutely everything on the menu is prepared beautifully according to Japanese tradition. You won't find absurd rolls here, the American crap-on-top-of-a-fried-cali-roll nonsense that seems to be everywhere these days. Just beautiful cuts of sashimi, perfectly prepared cooked entrees, traditional noodle dishes. Oh my word, it's just so good!
Best sushi on the eastside.

Good food but a little spendy – We recently had dinner for the first time at Izumi. The food was good - very tasty and well prepared. The prices were a bit expensive ($11 for my meal of cold udon noodles, 2 tempura prawns, and 3 small tempura veggies and $1.50 for my side of miso; $19 for my husband's meal of assorted tempura + maybe 8-10 pieces of assorted nigiri sushi + rice, salad, miso soup). Service was good and we got our drinks refilled promptly (always a must for me in a restaurant). Atmosphere was nice once you got ... read more
