I have a son who is low function disabled, cerebral-palsy and cognitively impaired. After several operations he is able to stand and shuffle along. He developed a toe nail fungus on his left big toe. The fungus had become large on top of his toe causing him discomfort (pain) when he had his splints and shoes on. My son will not allow any medical personnel near his feet because of past procedures (operations etc.) To remove the toe would require general anaesthetic.
