On Hayden Island, there's something wonderful besides bridges and boats floating in the water: the Island Cafe. Our vibrant decor and lively team will quickly transport you from Portland to paradise. And our open dining room overlooks the marina and is filled with the aromas of fried fish and fresh burgers. For those looking to unwind, our selection of fruit-based cocktails and microbrews should hit the spot nicely. When April 21st rolls around, our city knows that their favorite spot on the river is open again for the seaso... read more

Fun, unique, great food, low price – Great, fun place to take friends and family; the dock setting is unique and the food is great - you can taste the grilled flavor of the burgers and freshness of the fish. And the price is very reasonable. On both occassions that we have gone, however, we have had the same waitress who, after taking our orders, disappears until she brings our check, never offering refills or anything. Others might not have the same experience with different servers.
Awesome fried oysters! – If going by boat, get there early as the slips fill up quickly. There are two extra slips around the West side of the Cafe. If the slips are all full, it is definately worth the wait. Food is outstanding and mixed drinks are modest.
What a find! – Someone at work mentioned this place, so a good girlfriend and I headed over there last night. We made it time for their Happy Hour - which is from 3 to 6 PM, and were pleasantly surprised. We were seated promptly, and were greated by amazingly friendly staff. This place is so much fun, the food is good and reasonably priced. I can't believe I've lived in Portland for 10 years and just found this place!
I love this place! – I discovered this little oasis a couple of years ago and have been returning every week during their open season. The food is good, service excellent with all of the staff calling my dog "Bear" and me by name and the atmosphere is totally relaxing...like being on a beach in Mexico. This is my favorite hangout and well worth the trip. You will love it too, unless you are the starchy uptight kind.
Best Place to Go on a Nice Day! – This is the best little place on the river. Yes you might wait a while for a table if the weather is good, but its fun wait. Hey, have a beer, or a mixed drink. Check out the good looking staff. Walk on the dock. I love this place. Food is typical pub or cafe food, but decent. The Fish Tacos and Fish and Chips are great. Burger and also pretty darn good. Service is great, and also fun to look at. Not your typical 18 year old trashy girls. Nice looking MILFS!! I would recommend this place to ... read more
Keeping on saling ...past this cafe – Had the unfortunate experience of being hungry and thirsty after a day on the river....this is strictly the Jantzen beach crowd.....service is average, food-grease city....live music some weekends-generally marginal to outright awful music....the better choice....stop at Salty's if you want a good dining experience.
Love the ambiance of this place, I feel like I am on an Island, great drinks, good food. – You can pull your boat up to the dock and tie off to eat here, or come by car and park. We have done it all, it is beautiful to sit on the dock looking out on the Columbian River and dine in this "Island" attmosphere. If it is a beautiful day, plan on a little wait, but it is well worth it. They have a fun bar-great drinks, good food, somewhat of a limited menu, but really good. We waot for this place to open in the late spring, and ha... read more
My favorite secret is out! – Island Cafe has long been one of my favorite (I also recommend the Hidden Bay Cafe on the other side of the island). These are 2 of Portland's best kept secrets. Although, it doesn't seem like much of a secret anymore. The Island Cafe's dock is full of boats, & tables full of summertime fans from open to close on summer days - especially wknds. Very cool place to sit outside & have lunch, dinner, cocktails, or breakfast. I like to go by boat, but usually have to wait for mooring space. Casual sum... read more
Great Day for Relaxing – This restaurant was fun with lots of boats, great food, outside on the water. We had a group of us there and they treated us like royalty. Lots of good drinks, and the onion pedals are a must have along with the Columbian burger. We will be back for drinks, good food and a relaxing time. One of the most relaxing nights my family has had in over 2 years in Portland.
