Irazu is Chicago's first and only Costa Rican restaurant and we've been perfecting our style for the past 27 years. We've been a mainstay in the heart of Bucktown, just steps from the O'Hare Blue Line (Western station) and "The 606". It is not real costarrican food, everything taste as a Mexican food. Costarrican food doesn't have big pieces of onion and bell pepper. Furthermore we add our delicious salsa Lizano in the food.
You were right. Get the mango watermelon shake. It's amazing.

What a gem! Irazu offers a large menu that caters to all food preferences while not sacrificing the true essence of Costa Rican food. Ticos know that eating is an experience, an activity, something shared with friends and family. That experience is definitely brought to bear as soon as you walk into Irazu. Warm hospitality, authentic flavors, and a delightful environment make this a "must -stop" every time you're in Chicago!
From the food to the customer service, Irazu is absolutely superb. We had a large party of six for a Friday night and although they do not take reservations the staff made sure to accommodate us without any problems. The casado with steak is delicious and the steak is always perfectly juicy. The chifrijo and ceviche are great starters that are sure to be crowd favorites.
