I still have very happy memories of my great grandparents ( Haberstumpf) taking me to the Ionia Free Fair....that would be in the mid 50s and with a bit of luck I may get there for the 100th celebration along with my mother, who will be 93 on March 21st! We will be there for her 75 th class reunion from Lowell HS! I recall vividly standing by the fence while my great grandma cheered during the Harness Racing. We can't wait to get back!
I'm having "fair withdrawal" today... We've spent every day the past ten days at the fair so we're not sure what to do with ourselves. This was probably the best fair for me because of all of the cool things my six-year-old daughter, Emma, was able to do. Great memories! Thank you, Ionia Free Fair. We'll see you next year!
The fair was a great break from a ridiculously busy lifestyle we adults seem to favor. I may have looked like a weirdo being the only 40 something standing in the lines among the teens but there is no other legal, non self destructive fun that can top a great fair ride. Thanks for the reminder of what its like to be a kid again!
I haven't been in about 22 years but loved it when I was younger & still living in Saranac,Mi.
