Plazas are where all the action happens. I have no idea if there is a calendar of events here but it seems like every time I come here something is going on. Last time I was here there were chairs set up and someone was giving a speech. Not exciting for me but it shows how this area is an important part of Chinatown Chicago. Now the plaza has tons to investigate. There are several locations that sell fresh fruit drinks. Watermelon is my favorite. Prices range from $3.50 to $5. I recommend. This area, just like about 75 percent of the city, is all ghetto! Shootings, homicides, armed robberies, car jackings, especially by the lethal Flash Mobs (which come in ALL races; White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, you name it), are daily, sometimes hourly occurances. Do NOT go to Chicago's Chinatown if you don't want to become another statistic of armed robbery, shooting, homicide, grand theft auto, or assault. If you want to go to a Chinatown, do yourself a favor and go to the one in New York City.
If your going to spend some time in Chinatown then your going to end up here one way or another, and that is not a bad thing. I recommend getting a papaya milk tea with tapioca at Joy Yee's before going on to explore both levels of this plaza. Some shops and restuarants are more 'accessible' than others, but don't be intimidated and feel free to wander in and out of any place that catches your eye. Gotta' love the square. You will find anything from food, to stuff, to clinics. One of the best place in Chinatown! 50000 stars.
