Unfortunately, I was admitted during the Covid Crisis. There is a reason why they are called "IAFF Center of Excellence". You will not find the caliber of care I recieved anywhere else. I was made comfortable and all my concerns and fears were addressed quickly. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The staff was top notch and friendly. My days were spent in a group atmosphere and my nights were spent with other firefighters telling our stories by the campfire, playing volleyball, working out in the gym and walking or runnin... read more

This place was phenomenal!! The staff was friendly and willing to go the extra mile. The therapist and doctors were very knowledgeable, professional, and compassionate! The best part was the fellow firefighters there! We all shared our pain and tears but built each other up along the way too! Because of this place I’m not afraid of my PTSD or ashamed of talking about it! Please if you have just the smallest thought about needing this place make the call! You’ll be glad you did!!

A very special shout out to my therapist Shameka Williams, she was amazing!!! She always had an ear to hear, to listen to my problems and she always made time for me regardless of her busy and hectic schedule. I was such a hot mess when I first got there, and she helped me to realize that it's okay to be selfish during your recovery she helped me to realize that if I was not whole and healthy as a person that I had nothing to offer to my children and my grandchildren. so nervous about doing family therapy and making amends t... read more

This place will not prevent more than one station house member or department member from coming at the same time. Even when it is a captain and a subordinate. I find this highly unethical as it is great to share with other firefighters but not necessarily with someone from your same station house. If you are there and this happens, you are forced to make a choice. Either you leave or you accept the situation. This was my story. I asked the director of the facility if the IAFF supported this policy and he said that it did not... read more

I reached out to the Center of Excellence in April of this year after suffering from Anxiety and depression with a large dose of alcohol use. I am a firefighter who dreaded going to work because I had it in my head that I could not do the job that I so loved at one time. I spent the month of May in the Center gathering tools and skills to cope and deal with my symptoms while I was drying out from alcohol abuse. The Staff there was very professional and supportive and lived up to my expectations and I did get the tools to be ... read more

This is a choice you need to make this is your life which is important. You are important you have one life. Your loved ones , friends and family want you back. Its a hard journey to sobriety. You have the go ahead to use this resource to guide you at Recovery Village at Palmer Lake. I did it and You can to. God Bless you be strong.

Hey hey hey! Kat here! I went to ORC in early April because to put it simply I was at the end of my dimma-dang rope. I was tired of waking up every morning with no memory of who I needed to apologise to from the night before. I was tired of isolating myself and losing all my friends to drinking, and I was so so tired of puking. Seriously, someday pregnancy is going to be a breeze compared to the hangovers. I shudder at the thought. I was so tired of the shame, the loneliness, and the physical toll on my body that I was ready... read more
