Here, fire fighters and paramedics who struggle with substance use disorders and co-occurring behavioral health issues, such as PTSD, depression or anxiety, can heal in a safe space among their brothers and sisters.

I recently returned from 30 days at the IAFF COE. It was one of the most difficult, soul searching, and totally necessary things I have ever done. I am now equipped with new tools in my toolbox, am comfortable with feeling uncomfortable, and full of courage to live according to my moral compass. This facility has changed. Once I was one who advocated the CoE. Now I’m lost in life because of the center. They preach peer support and the real learning happens after program hours. A time to be among fellow firefighters. In my case it fine if the firefighters are same gender. But, it was not same gender. Myself and the other firefighter were harassed and discriminated against. The facility will not put anything in writing about this, as we requested under their rules. I was discharged over this not ready to return home. ... read more
This is a wonderful place that helped me get my life back on track. From the first day to the last, I felt welcomed and encouraged. The staff and fellow brothers and sisters there make this a wonderful, unique place to seek help and build a support system. I was also assisted with after care plans, have continued on that path and have had success. Cannot thank this place enough for what they have done for my life, family and career.
This place saved my life. I refused to acknowledge my PTSD for so long. After fighting the process for 2 weeks, I finally opened my eyes to see that I was blaming everyone else for the experience that I was going through. accepting what I could not change became my first break through. Hands down, I would recommend anyone in the IAFF that finds themselves struggling, to give them a call.
