Treated a friend and his husband for His birthday. When we entered, Hostess asked if I had another pair of shoes. I laughed and said "no". I was informed my shoes were inappropriate. We all laughed and commented on my $200.00 black Italian leather sandals and departed. Once outside, we encountered a woman with a similar pair of sandals. She confirmed she just dined with no issue.
