I was charged a resort fee of $33.63 per night, no water, room not cleaned, I did not use the club, no refund, unethical behavior by the hotel, please do not do business with this unprofessional hotel

I consistently return to Hotel Madera when I am in DC visiting my college daughter. I’ve tried several other hotels around the DuPont area and Madera just has “the thing” - small enough to feel like a boutique stay but large enough to offer amenities like a restaurant, good coffee and a gym. The staff are always sincerely friendly and attentive, and stay long enough so that I’ll often be able to build on our past interactions. This visit I met Sara at the front desk. For anybody thinking of staying here this place is NOT a smoke free hotel. Don’t say you haven’t been warned.

Update: On Sunday morning (8/31/25), I spoke to a person who said she was THE manager at the hotel. She said there’s not much they can do about people smoking weed here except use ozone machines in the rooms. “You know, the area allows it…” So, okay then. She wasn’t rude, but the chat was unproductive. Only one night left to go. This could have been 5 stars, if they enforced the no smoking rules and maybe if parking was a bit less than $55 per night.
