I love chef Kyle Itani's Japanese take on comfort food. It's my favorite neighborhood spot.
I enjoyed it very much dining at Hopscotch, in Oakland. The Miso bouillabaisse was rich and plentiful, wherea the Country fried chicken was tender, hot and crispy; it was to-die-for. Shared the beignets with butterscotch filling for dessert, now that's what you call decadent! Highly recommend.
Good food, though a very limited menu. But I get it, it's a small place, small kitchen. I had the soba noodle lasagna, and while I liked the fresh squash on top, it overall was dry and I got a corner piece that had burnt noodle. The men in our party each had a meat dish (fried chicken and beef) -- they raved about their meals. Staff super friendly and apologetic that it took 1 hour after seating to receive our appetizers, much less dinner. Friendly staff. Good service. Very creative menu. Food was excellent. Nice atmosphere. I had Pork belly eggs Benedict. Perfectly prepared.
Hopscotch is the quintessential place to enjoy great food and drinks!
My husband and I had Sunday brunch and food was great and the bartender was making good quality drinks. First time here and definitely will be back. Very good service
