In 1866, Simon Schneitter discovered a large, curious-looking rock crater on his farm. Upon closer inspection, he realized that warm, soothing mineral was flowing into a pool where people could bathe and relax. Before long, this mineral "hot pot" became a favorite local attraction. Miners from neighboring towns discovered the warm waters of the Homestead Crater and fell in love with the relaxation they experienced. A nice, quick getaway – We stayed at the Homestead to take advantage of their summer specials. The complex is small, easily navigated by foot. Our room was clean and very comfortable- a good value for the price we paid. Simon's restaurant was surprising. I expected "hotel food" but were were treated to an inventive menu with some good values. Sunday brunch was quite ample.
