The land the brothers farm originated from a land grant to the Holdens' ancestors, the Brooks Family, from King George the 2nd in 1756. The Holdens' ancestors have been farming the land for over two hundred years, earning it the distinction of being a Bicentennial Farm. It is the 9th oldest farm in North Carolina that has remained in the same family. Prior to 1984 the land was predominately used to grow tobacco. Bought corn on the cob it was so sweet and the best I've had in a long time, can't wait to try the peaches after they ripen a little.
We were just passing by on the way home to Wilmington and stopped to take a look. Liked the selection but we found the pricing to be non competitive with other suppliers of the same product. Example is tomatoes at HB market =1.89lb. Tomatoes at Country fresh market Wilmington=0.99 lb. Lettuce at HB market =2.49 head. Lettuce at Walmart(monkey junction) =0.99 per head. Will not be shopping at HB market in the future

Our produce does not sit in distribution centers for long periods of time before it reaches the customer. We are not able to nor is it our goal to compete with large chain grocery stores. The grape toms were superb, not theirs but not only MUCH better priced than NMB food stores, but sweet and juicy and good. The bigger tomatoes were good... Actually Very Good... NOT awesome, but again, cheaper and tastier than any we've bought local. (I know these are not Holdens yet, and we look forward to August!) We also bought Amish... read more

Thanks, Susan! So happy you enjoyed your visit. We are a Bi-Centennial farm-one of the few left in NC. We will be picking our own tomatoes next month, so won't be long. Right now we have PYO strawberries and in the fall we will have PYO tomatoes, so you can stock up. Again, thanks for shopping with us!
We have been shopping here for years! Wonderful place!! So many local or grown on property choices!!
