Highland Coffees, open since 1989, is a specialty coffee and tea shop located just off the corner of Highland Road and Chimes Street at the historic North Gates of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. First, the coffee is excellent -- especially the cold-steeped iced coffee. The hot-bewed coffee is great as well (they roast their own beans), and always fresh. It's an excellent place to work -- I wrote my dissertation, a fiction novel, and a good part of a physics textbook here. The clientele is mostly students and faculty, although there's a good mix of non-LSU people as well. The staff is excellent. Great place to work or socialize. Highly recommended.
