A local mini-chain known for its affordable, well-executed vegan fare. – In Short The welcoming, seat-yourself style is present at both the Valencia and Divisadero locations, with tables on the street and breezy back patios. Glossy dark-wood tables and modern seating put the final touches on an already popular dining experience. Service is friendly, but can vary in speed depending on the time of day and the location. The vegan food is well-prepared and simply presented.

Long time favorite – Okay, sometimes the service can be sketchy, but the food makes up for it just about every time. I've eaten most things on the menu, with the red curry being my favorite. My carnivorous husband loves the shwarma, and you can't go wrong getting dessert here. Vegan or not, this is high quality mostly organic food, for great prices.

sensational veg schnitzel and mushroom sauce – as a veggie - needed some creative, wholesome food during my week stay in san fran in January 2005 - and that's exactly what I got. busy weekday lunch crowd, freshly squeezed OJ and senational food. I'm from Adelaide, South Australia, and we have no where near the choice for veggie places that San Fran has on offer. Wish I could live here!

boring vegetarian – I am not an Herbivoire fan. I've had better vegetarian at non-veg places. I think sometimes people believe vegetarian food should have no flavor- the food was bland bland bland. Skip it and gets some spicy flavorful somewhere else.

pretty good food Every time someone recommends going to Herbivore, I get excited because the food always sounds good on the menu. But it's always just OK. I've had several different meals there, and they've always left something to be desired. Needless to say, I no longer go there anymore. It's a good place to try, but not good enough to be one of my regular restaurants. PROS: vegan choices CONS: food is only OK

not quite an oasis – if extremely hungry, might not be the way to go, at least for dinner. this was the 2nd time i went there in my weeks visit, both times service was not great. When sat, we had to get ourselves menu's. Server appeared to be seating people, taking orders and delivering food. waitstaff nice, seemed aware that they were taking on more than necessary. 1st trip, food was good, however the service lacked/ not busy at all. second visit, food not so good - soup luke warm, salad came at same the time as entrees- ti... read more

vegetarian paradise – every time i go to herbivore, it take me forever to choose what to eat because everything is so amazing, and as a vegetarian, i am used to only a few choices. i recommend the grilled vegetable plate. its AMAZING. great place for a casual, mellow dinner. i go here all the time and love it. so happy it exists!

Pretty good, pretty pretty good First off, I'm not a vegan. Nor am I a vegetarian by any stretch of the imagination. But my girlfriend is. So when I found myself at Herbivore, a restaurant that doesn't even use CHEESE, let alone meat, I was a little hesitant. The first few bites, bland. But by the end of the dish, I was totally digging the food. The organic beers there are great too.
