Back when we first moved to Spokane as poor grad students, our fancy ‘splurge’ restaurant was Herbal Essence Cafe, affectionately nicknamed ‘the shampoo place’. I still remember the crab cakes, signature pear salad, and salmon with huckleberry glaze that made me fall in love that first dinner. Last year it was purchased and the name changed to Wiley’s Downtown Bistro. Tonight, my husband and I tried out this new iteration - I had the prawn sandwich with bacon, avocado, provolone, and garlic aioli and he had the pulled pork sandwich with ham, cheddar, provolone and huckleberry barbecue sauce. And I fell in love all over again. Seriously, the most amazing sandwich I’ve had in a looooooooooong time (and his was *almost* as good). We’ll be back!

We had an early dinner for our 35th anniversary. We were the only people in the restaurant and we had a lovely time! Our server was was polite and friendly. The food was phenomenal! Egg rolls and caprese salad were flavorful. My husband's salmon was tasty and the duck was not overdone, but could have had a crispier skin. It was served with a huckleberry reduction that highlighted the richness of the duck and also complemented the fresh seasonal vegetables. We were treated to a fabulous chocolate cake for dessert! If you want a special place for dinner, Herbal Essence is it!

Went for my first time yesterday.. Amazing atmosphere,and the food was PERFECT.. I had the Clam chowder and the Chicken breast, and a Chocolate Huckleberry Tini. Yummy ..Staff was wonderful,and very informative..The food was.... oh my goodness.. Absolutely Perfect.. Next time I must try the duck. Definitely a new favorite place downtown
