GREAT location! Excellent staff! But the hotel room was very small and the bathroom wasn't cleaned properly after the last guests checked out. The bed was very uncomfortable. There is no mini fridge or coffee pot in the room. I gave it 3 stars based on the location and staff, but I believe it is over priced.

Total perfection for our 5/12/17 wedding. Best decision to go with such professionals! Every inquiry and email sent was responded to within an hour and they executed the day of perfectly. Food is delicious, room is stunning, and the staff is top notch. My husband and I couldn't be happier with the Hawthorne!
If you like history this is the place and it is in the center of it all. Visiting for a conference! The beds are comfortable. Beware that because this is an old hotel that it has very old windows. Mine rattled all night long. I finally stuffed a folded paper between the window and fell asleep quickly. There is currently construction going on and I am hoping that means the windows are being replaced.

Where do I begin? My husband and I visited Salem for the first time for our 25th anniversary, and chose the Hawthorne to stay. The hotel was lovely accommodations comfortable, but my biggest praise was the staff, one in particular. A young woman working at the front desk, named Angela. She was so welcoming on our arrival and continued to be helpful to us throughout our stay. We asked for recommendations on places to see, and eat and she gladly gave us all the information we needed. This hotel is a terrible value. I paid over $250/night to spend a sleepless, miserable night in a small, hot room, people fighting in the hallway, on an uncomfortable bed. There are no coffee makers in the room and room service coffee took over 30 minutes (I was told it would be 10) and cost me $15. The furnishings and decor are old and dated.
