We did sunrise on Mauna Kea with Kim. It was a great experience. The stars were incredible. It seemed like they thought of everything; all we had to do was show up.
The tour starts at a cool little shop. Mateo was our tour guide for the 12-hour Epic Island Volcano Tour. He was awesome - he shared so much knowledge with us about every stop! (Coffee farm, sea turtles and black sand at Punaluu, volcano national park, lava tubes, random Kona history, the craters, waterfalls, history of Hilo, amazing stories about Pele, the fire goddess, and the Portuguese donuts (Malasadas!!) at Tex' Drive-In in Honokaa!!) Had a fantastic day with Justin heading to the caldera of Kilauea and the mountain goddess Pelehonuamea on the twilight tour
HFT let us down at first with a late cancellation but redeemed admirably with the Kilauea Lava Hike. Our guide, Melanie, provided cultural context to the project as well as the framework for team building. This hike is not for the faint of heart as it is 12 hrs portal to portal sandwiching a 4+ hour hike onto the lava field. Proper PPE was provided as was Mel's expertise and encouragement. Thanks to Jeff for an amazing day exploring the Kohala Waterfalls! We learned about the foliage as well as Hawaiian history and culture as we wove our way through the lush landscape. Swimming under a waterfall and lunch with a priceless view will not soon be forgotten! The Pinzgauer ride was unforgettable too! Mahalo!
Absolutely gorgeous. Seen up to 5 waterfalls on a mile or two hike. Provided lunch in a picnic area with a beautiful overlook. Great tour guide that shared epic history notes!
