After getting out of a relationship with 2 children not knowing where to turn I used my last bit of money to submit an application because I couldn’t afford regular rent. I called every 6 months to check what number I was on the waitlist and the number was always further from the previous number they gave me. I eventually stopped calling but I haven’t forgotten.
