Despite its Hollywood connections, this franchise's focus is on pumping iron, not newfangled razzle-dazzle. – In Short The Terminator and the Incredible Hulk (aka Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno) lifted weights at the gym's Venice, California, flagship years ago, but even today, customers frequenting charter locations are bound to encounter serious muscle. Great Gym!! – I've been a member since 2004. When I first joined I was happy with the number of pieces of equipment but was not fully satisfied with the amount of time it took to have the equipment repaired when it broke down. About two years ago that all changed, I'm not sure if its new management or they got a new company to take care of the equipment but one thing is for sure everything is running almost 100% of the time. The gym is clean, the personal trainers actually know what they are doing, and its a good price.

OBTRUSIVE HOUSE MUSIC – It is a bare-bones gym. A bit rough around the edges, the heating/cooling system is often out of whack, and the majority of the members have no concept about stripping the weights when they?re done. But, if you just want to work out, it?s fine? with one huge exception? AT NIGHT THEY PLAY THE HOUSE MUSIC AT UNMANAGEABLE LEVELS WITH THE BASE CRANKED UP ALL THE WAY. IF PRE-PACKAGED TECHNO HOUSE MUSIC IS YOUR THING, THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. IF NOT, SAVE YOUR MONEY, EARS AND SANITY. DON?T EVEN THINK ABOU... read more

Beware of sharp business practices! – If you DO join this gym and then try to cancel once your membership is up, be aware that they will keep billing you beyond the 30 days from their receipt of your certified letter. It all has to do with their billing cycle, the phase of the moon, and their desire to hold onto your cash.

Gold's on 54th - unbiased opinion – I'm surprised by some of the overly negative comments below as it is not my experience or that of anyone I know. I do agree that management takes WAY TOO LONG to fix equipment (the shoulder press has been out of service for 3 weeks now & a seated leg curl in the back has had a broken seat for over 6 months) Also there are a few stations that never have a weight pin. To me that is the primary issue that the gym needs to address quickly. I do wonder aloud if the 54th Street location has suff... read more

Crooks! – This gym is WAY overpriced for what they offer. The classes are awful and not offered at convenient times. Also, when you try to cancel your membership, they make you get a certified letter from the post office and after that it takes 60 DAYS for it to go through. Thus, they charge you an extra two months when you have already decided you do not want to return. Unbelievable! I will NEVER get another membership at any Gold's Gyms EVER again
