Don't join this place – Uggg!! To join the chorus of naysayers, this gym is VERY poorly maintained. Machines remain broken for months, signs referring to the fact that they will be fixed months ago are still up (the machines are still broken), and the bathroom is moderately skanky. I?ve tried to politely speak with the management, and they totally blew me off. Its close to my house (and really my only option) but it is totally sub-par.
Overpriced, overcrowded, under maintained – I joined Gold's Gym during one of their membership drives and had billing problems right away. They bring in sales people who will help you sign up but then disappear once you actually need anything. When you call asking for assistance they simply refer you to an "answering service", which is just a glorified answering machine with no option to speak to an actual representative. Not only did I have problems with them but a friend of mine did as well. She was actually billed without... read more
Poor maintenance and very crowded – I'll add to the chorus complaining about the state of the equipment. The only possible advantage is the location, if you happen to live in Capitol Hill. I've been a member here for a long time because the location is convenient, but the overall quality has fallen low enough that I'm considering cancelling my membership. Last time I was in there almost half the cardio machines were out of service. Weight machines have been broken for weeks, with signs promising repair left on them. On top o... read more
Don't Go Here – Background: I've been a member at this gym for almost 4 years. I wrote a helpful review almost 2 years ago and the problems back then have only gotten worse. Machines are broken for weeks at a time. Roughly 30-40% of the treadmills are out of commission at any point in time. Its bad enough when lots of them have 'out of order' signs on them but even the ones that are 'working' will skip/slip while you're running and give you a little scare. The weights are never organized and equipment is never put away. They... read more
New management isn't a change for the better – I've been a member at Gold's Gym for about two years. The previous management was OK. While they were into increasing membership numbers like any gym chain, the trainers and staff were pleasant. Last year, the management shifted, most of the trainers left and new hard-selling staffers were added. Now I feel like I am surrounded by used car salesmen (personal training sessions, supplements, etc.). For awhile, I was even getting sales calls AT HOME! The equipment is very good and ... read more
Typical "chain" gym sales department – I had a couple of trial workouts at Golds -- the equipment is excellent. The main workout room has no windows so it's a bit oppresive at times. Prior to my "trial" workout I got the hard sell on a training program. When it came to joining there were several fees added at the last minute which hadn't been previously discussed -- "janitorial" being one of them. I decided not to join.
