This is a non-tourist unfancy spot with delicious seafood. They have a nice selection of all your favorites. A full bar with friendly staff and reasonable prices. The chowder was terrific. I don’t love paper plates and plastic forks but here I’ll make the trade off.
Gilbert's is my go to place when passing through Portland. The chowdahs are excellent. The fry baskets are fresh. But the lobster stew is where it's at. I love lobster stew. The amount of meat in it is more than ample. The broth is flavorful and filling. The place is small but friendly and clean and you will find locals enjoying life at the bar or eating their favorites. It's not pretentious or stuffy. The food is served in takeout containers but dont let that fool you. It's amazing.
Best seafood chowder we've ever had!
My hubby and I enjoyed a late Sunday dinner here, the service was fast, the food had large portions and fresh! My seafood chowder had tons of shrimp and lobster meat, the twin lobster special did not disappoint! Highly recommend it!!
