One of the best neighborhood 'dive bars' ever, which has weathered the constant flow of students, who usually leave when they enter. :P The burgers? A MUST. The owner once welcomed the Hawkeye Alumni Beer Band with open arms, and served scotch. During lazy afternoons, it's the home of locals playing spades and pinochle. As it should be...
I like George's--but I liked it a whole lot more when it had Bass on tap.
Very friendly. Broadly eclectic clientele. The absolute best burger in town. Even more pleasant when I'm not there.
The owner Mike is wonderful & so are all of his employees. It's a great bar with a diverse crowd. If you're in Iowa city, you have to get a beer and a cheeseburger at George's.
It's a family affair! Best Cheeseburgers, best waitstaff, best owners who know it's about community!
