I have lived here for 2yrs now..classy suites w/a ton of character that make apartment living a breath of fresh air. They are bright, clean, well maintained & large. The neighbors rock! I leave my laundry on the clothes line drying for days & have never lost a thing. Ive had beers w/a few neighbors, (on one another's patios), I can knock on any door to borrow anything from quarters for laundry to baking soda for baking & u bet they r gettin muffins for being so great. I have lived in an apartment at the GEM Building for almost a year. It is the nicest apartment I have ever had. The other folks that live here are quiet, and many have lived here for around a decade. The inside is just like it was when built in 1928, with the art deco light fixtures, and almost craftsman wide wood around all the doors and windows. I lived in this building on the second floor for a couple years in the early 90s. The building was frozen in time and hadn't changed since it was built. My only regret was the vintage elevator in the back stairwell never worked a la "The Big Bang Theory." I tried to stay out of the basement where the laundry facilities were located. It was a total "Silence of the Lambs" feel down there.
