For 30 years, I worked on Indian reservations, where the incidence of diabetes is the highest in the world. It was on these reservations that I developed a special interest in diabetic eye problems. I also had exposure to all kinds of unusual ocular pathology and unique culture within our country. Even after practicing for such a long time, I still get great satification out of helping a patient see better or treating eye disease to the point of resolution.
